Even though this gem is one of my more recent discoveries, it has easily become one of the top three foundations I have ever used!
So, what’s the skinny on Just Skin? It’s lightweight, moisturizing without feeling greasy and contains SPF 15 to help protect you from harmful UVA and UVB rays. I’ve been looking for a good foundation+moisturizer that can rebuff the cool San Francisco climate and provides protection from the sun (San Francisco’s clouds are misleading; the sun’s harmful rays penetrate through the clouds and fog so us San Franciscans still need ample UV protection).
If you’re looking for a medium to full coverage foundation…honey I’m sorry to say, this ain’t it. It smoothes and evens out my skin but only gives me light to medium foundation coverage. However, the sweet point for this particular skincare product is how moisturizing, lightweight and velvety it feels on my skin. It’s price point is a little steep but I’m six months into using the same tube and I STILL have a little less than half of the original product left (I apply 1-2 layers a day with a wet Beauty Blender). Highly recommend this skin-tastic moisturizer!
THE FIRST TIME I USED BABYFACIAL
I had been searching in vain for products that would help reduce the inflammation on my chin (to this day, I get mixed opinions from dermatologists with what the small lesions on my chin are) and this mask delivered on its promise to resurface my skin and give it more radiance. I noticed a huge improvement in my chin area as well as my complexion looking brighter and my acne scars diminishing as well!
Their philosophy focuses more on biocompatibility than verifying the “natural” status of its ingredients, which I respect. Their approach to skincare is to give your skin “a clean break” by eliminating the Suspicious 6 from your skincare routine.
My purchase also came with a sample size of the Drunk Elephant Virgin Marula Luxury Facial Oil (which you can apply after removing the Babyfacial treatment for moisturization.) I apply the mask only once a week due to its high efficacy and leave on for twenty minutes. For the best results, I follow up the mask with a facial oil or moisturizer. A little product goes a long way with this one!
2019 is the year of bakuchiol (pronounced buh-koo-chee-all), the vegan alternative to retinol that is blowing up the skincare world!
As someone with extremely sensitive skin, I have to exercise caution when using retinoids and retinols (both are Vitamin A derivatives that are ultimately converted into retinoic acids). Retinoids (the umbrella term for over-the-counter retinols and prescription retinoids) are clinically proven to treat acne and reduce the appearance of wrinkles; retinoic acid is also one of the holy grail ingredients in anti-aging skincare products.
So what exactly makes bakuchiol different from retinol? Bakuchiol is used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. It’s derived from seeds and leaves of the babchi plant, psoralea corylifolia. Bakuchiol increases cell turnover, thereby stimulating collagen production, repairing skin damage and revealing fresh skin cells.
Whish Beauty Restoring Face Oil is definitely one of my favorite bakuchiol products to date; when I began researching bakuchiol, it was always being touted as one of the best selling bakuchiol products currently out on the market. I love how it’s moisturizing without leaving behind a greasy residue and making me look like you could fry eggs on my face. After applying a single, thin layer (which is really all you need), my skin feels more hydrated and has a nice glow to it! An added bonus is the dropper it comes with, making it easier to measure out how many drops you want to use independently or for mixing with other skincare products.
